In Chapter One...
Making a Family Plan
So you’re expecting a little bundle, congratulations! You are about to enter a whole new world, and it’s going to be great. There must be so many thoughts racing through your mind right now, but here’s what I can tell you for sure – you are not alone. First of all, women have been doing this for as long as man has existed. And by the way, we are the stronger sex, and if you are skeptical of that statement, just you wait - you’ll see. But you are going to need some help from family and friends. Most women like to plan ahead, or at least feel somewhat secure about the future, immediate or otherwise. So instead of worrying about it, now is the time to take some action and make a plan. Here's a few ways to get started...
In Chapter Two...
Nutritional Tips
As we all know, we have to be healthy. And not just when we are expecting, but all the time! You want to have enough energy to think clearly and to keep up with the kids. We also want to feel like we look good, it helps our self-esteem and self-confidence. We all want to feel comfortable in our clothes and we all want healthy hair, clear skin and a bright smile. These are the “little” things that do matter.
Here are some basic but key nutritional tips that will help make your body happy…
Preparing your Home
First of all, you don't have to panic and start running around your home baby proofing everything. It's going to be a while until your baby is up and around. But now is a good time to replace carpets or buy “kid friendly furniture.” It’s also a good time to reorganize your living space. Not that you can do any heavy lifting or pushing - that’s what friends are for - but you are going to want a lot of floor space and you may have a home that is designed for you and not a baby, so take a look around. Keeping things uncluttered is a good idea and little things like a stack of books on the floor can be a hazard for a little one who is starting to crawl. A lamp cord that is in reach can look like a rock climbing rope to a junior explorer. It’s a good idea to get on your hands and knees and just crawl around your house. Seriously, this is how you can see your house from a baby’s point of view.
In Chapter Three...
Tips on choosing a Pediatrician
When I was about six months along, I started interviewing pediatricians. First I asked my OB who she recommended and cross-referenced them with my insurance company. Then I looked up other doctors in my area who were part of my insurance company and then I did phone interviews. When I had it narrowed down, I made appointments to meet with them. When I arrived at the office, I looked around to see how clean it was, if there were toys in the waiting room, how friendly the staff was. Once I sat down with the doctor, I had a list of questions for her, but more than listening to her answers, I watched her. Did she care that I was there? Did she look me in the eye? Did she look burnt out? Does she love what she does?

In Chapter Four...
Don’t shhhhhh…
It’s natural to want to keep the house quiet when the new baby is sleeping, but silence is not necessary. If the baby gets used to sleeping in total silence, you may be inviting future problems. It’s wise to allow some regular noise in while the babe is napping so that they get used to sleeping through everyday sounds, yes, that includes the doorbell...
